The Philadephia Eagles could have an interesting advantage when they face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14 on Sunday night.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is slated for emergency surgery on Wednesday afternoon.

McCarthy had woken up in pain on Wednesday morning, which turned out to be a case of acute appendicitis," per Pelissero.

McCarthy is expected to be released on the same day following his surgery and anticipates coaching on Sunday. Until then, the Cowboys' three coordinators will run practice.

Cowboys' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn reiterated that McCarthy will be there on Sunday for the divisional showdown.

"You think that tough Irishman is gonna miss this game," Quinn said on Wednesday.

While reports say that McCarthy will be coaching against the Eagles, one has to wonder if he can recover that quickly and then be able to stand for a long time post-surgery by Sunday.

Of course, we wish nothing but a speedy recovery for coach McCarthy, but his potential absence from the sidelines could mean a bit of an advantage for the Eagles.

Sunday is a must-win for both the Birds and Cowboys to claim top place in the NFC East and further land the No. 1 seed in the NFL Playoffs.

Any slight advantage certainly helps.
