Daniel Jones contract negotiation report perfect for Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have to love it when their rivals make like in Philadelphia easier.
The Philadelphia Eagles may have fallen just short in the biggest game of the season, but that doesn't mean that this past year was disappointing for the champions of the NFC East.
It may cause some heartache to go back and think 'what if' about a few key plays in a game that truly came down to the wire, but the good news for the Eagles is that their future is still extremely bright.
With a dominant quarterback in Jalen Hurts and one of the best general managers in the game to put players like Hurts in positions to find success, the Eagles still look like the favorites to repeat and win the NFC in 2023.
That same bright future does not exist for every other team in the NFC East.
The Giants are one such team that have fooled a lot of people. New York is a lot better than it has been over the past few years when it was the doormat of the division, but acting like Giants are going to take the next steps as contenders to the throne of the conference is ignoring the most important litmus test in football; the ceiling of the quarterback.
Daniel Jones did have a good season. Anyone that says otherwise is ignoring a very efficient season that didn't have the best offensive roster compliment for the young quarterback, but it is fair to question whether or not this is the best we will see of Jones when his main selling point on the season was his low turnover rate.
There has been a lot of bad from the signal caller in New York. Is one season like this with a bit of playoff success worth making Jones one of the better-paid quarterbacks in the league? Jones sure thinks so, but everyone else on the planet should be a bit more cautious.
Based on recent reports regarding the ongoing negotiation between Jones and the Giants, Eagles fans should be ecstatic that there is such a divide in the division.
The Eagles know better than most teams that paying a mediocre quarterback top dollar is a mistake. It seems like the Giants are trying to ignore the Carson Wentz debacle (and it is fair to say that Wentz played better before getting paid than Jones).
This type of deal would force the Giants to take money away from other key areas that were able to help prop Jones up as a player, and actively choosing to lose top players at other positions to keep Daniel Jones and feature him seems like a kiss of death for any front office.
The Eagles won't stop anyone on this. The Giants choosing to chew up a huge portion of their cap by paying Jones and Saquon Barkley would be one of the best things that could happen to the Eagles.
If something like this did happen, you can rest assured that the Eagles won't get challenged in their division by the Giants again for a long time.
