Eagles finally take care of a decision that will make or break their short and long-term future
The Eagles have a plan for their offense in 2026 now.
The search has ended. At long last, the Philadelphia Eagles have tiger Kevin Patullo replacement as the play caller for their offense.
Sean Mannion is headed to the Eagles to become their new offensive coordinator under head coach Nick Sirianni.
Eagles hire Packers assistant Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator
Philadelphia has chosen Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion as their new OC. He will call plays, something he has not done so in his coaching career so far in the NFL as of yet.
Mannion played for strong offensive minds like Sean McVay and Kevin O’Connell, among others, during his playing days in the pros, so his experience with those type of systems is notable. He will infuse the Eagles offense with more of a modern feel immediately.
Nick Sirianni has already released a statement on the final decision from the Eagles on who will be the next OC for Philly. He is confident in the young, up and coming coach to lead the offense to success for the Eagles.
“I’m thrilled to have Sean Mannion on board as the new offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. My goal throughout this process was to operate with an open mind regarding the future of our offense to find the best fit for the Eagles. Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of talented candidates and great offensive minds. I am appreciative of the time I was able to spend with each of them. Some came with years of experience running an offense and calling plays. Others were young, sharp, and dynamic coaches on the rise. I felt it was important to be patient and thorough to allow the right fit to reveal himself to us. Sean did just that.
It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league. I was impressed by his systematic views on offensive football and his strategic approach. Sean’s 11 years in the NFL have provided him a great opportunity to learn from and grow alongside some of the best coaches in the game. As a result, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to our team moving forward. I can’t wait to see Sean with our team, and I want to welcome him and his wife, Megan, to the Eagles family.” — Nick Sirianni on the hire of Mannion
Sirianni is expected to have an influence on the offense, but Mannion will be the one calling plays. While he lacks some coaching experience, he has a ton of respect in coaching circles, and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is a massive fan of his.
The risk makes sense for the Eagles
I discussed this move from Green Bay for Mannion with Wendell Ferreira, who covers the Packers for A to Z Sports. He’s got a lot of respect for the outlook of Mannion as an assistant going forward.
“Sean Mannion was a quarterback for so much time in the NFL because of his knowledge of the game, and his ability to translate his knowledge to the players was evident from the get go. Initially, he was hired as an offensive assistant in 2024 to work under veteran coach Tom Clements in the quarterbacks room.
When Clements retired, Matt LaFleur had no doubt: Mannion was the guy to coach Jordan Love and Malik Willis. It’s not a coincidence that both players had extremely efficient seasons.
“He’s got a bright future in this profession,” LaFleur recently said. “He attacks it the same way I knew he would when he was a player. Just extreme ownership of everything, puts in the time and goes above and beyond the call of duty, which is exactly what you want from your assistant coaches.”
It’s hard to know for sure how Sean Mannion will perform as an offensive coordinator, because the role is completely different. But he has all the tools — hard work, communication skills, football acumen — to succeed and eventually even become a head coach.” — Ferreira
