The 2023 NFL schedule was finally released last night. Not that it ever makes as much of a difference as some fans and members of the media tend to believe, but there are some important takeaways that come from the first glance.
There isn't much overtly crazy with the Philadelphia Eagles, but a further look at the overall schedule opens up a very important question; why don't the Eagles have the most primetime games in the league?
The three AFC teams with six games make sense. The Chiefs are the best team in the league and the Chargers/Bills meet all the requirements for a big draw in a primetime game with young quarterbacks and recognizable faces on both sides of the ball.
The NFC also has a representative on the list, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that the defending NFC Champions aren't the team that will get more time in the limelight.
The Eagles are better than the Cowboys in every way on both sides of the ball and proved it last season. How could the NFL see Dallas as the better team to throw its support behind?
Sure, Cowboys fans like the pretend they are "America's team," but even that alone can't be enough to make the league think the Eagles shouldn't at least be on the same level as a team from a media draw standpoint.
This is a very silly mistake by the NFL. How anyone okayed this move is beyond this writer, but it should all even out in the end when the Eagles get their extra games in primetime in the playoffs. The same can't be said for the Cowboys.
