When the 2025 NFL Draft rolls around come April, the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to be in the market for a tight end to eventually replace Dallas Goedert.
According to multiple reports, the Eagles have expressed interest in Texas Longhorns star tight end Gunnar Helm after formally meeting with him at the NFL Scouting Combine last week.
The interest appears to be very mutual, considering Helm strongly believes he would be a great fit for Philly since his body type fits Grant Calcarterra's, and he has tried to copycat his game after Goedert.
"I think my body is pretty similar to Calcaterra, I love watching him. I love watching Dallas Goedert. Obviously, he’s been with the Eagles for a long time,” Helm told The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Devin Jackson at the Combine. “I like to say I take a lot of stuff from his game when I watch him on film. To be able to learn from Dallas Goedert and from Calcaterra and that offense, and be able to play alongside guys like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and block for guys like that, I think it would be a blessing in itself.”
Similar to Goedert, Helm is a blocking-first tight end who can also catch.
The 6-foot-5 and 250-pound Texas product enters the draft following a breakout year with the Longhorns, reeling in 60 receptions for 786 yards and seven touchdowns.
Helm is the sixth-ranked tight end in this year's draft class and a projected mid-third-round pick. The Eagles are set to pick at No. 97 in Round 3, so pending how interested they are in Helm, they may need to trade up a few spots to snag him.
Helm did sprain his ankle pretty badly at the NFL Combine during his 40-yard dash, but he is expected to test again at Texas's Pro Day.
