Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni coach had a plan all along to let a handful players speak in place of him at the team's meeting the night before Super Bowl LIX.
It was something he did during the Eagles' 2021 Super Bowl run that he thought was extremely effective, despite the loss.
“What you got to see was just how the guys care about each other,” Sirianni said of his plans the night before the Super Bowl. “The whole conversation was just when guys would get up there just talking about how much they mean to each other, how they’re going to play for each other, all those different things. Again, it’s not the best groups of individuals that win, it’s the best teams.
“It was a good moment for our team and we’ll see how that plays out. But remember a lot of things from that. A lot of different guys talking and it meant a lot. We’ll probably try to recreate that.”
And just one week after becoming world champs, the Eagles dropped a behind the scenes video of those messages that helped them win Super Bowl LIX 40-22 versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
Several players took over the floor including linebacker Zack Baun, defensive end Brandon Graham, running back Saquon Barkley, linebacker Nakobe Dean, cornerback Darius Slay, right tackle Lane Johnson, wide receiver A.J. Brown, safety C.J. Garnder-Johnson, and left tackle Jordan Mailata.
Naturally, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts got the last message in before the video flipped to highlights from their Super Bowl win.
"The last time being here, that s*** changed my life," Hurts said. "It changed my life and it changed my mentality, and it changed everything. For so long, I was seeking. What would I do when I got this moment again? What would I do when this opportunity met me again? On the biggest stage, everybody watching. And I didn't get benched, I put on a good show. And I couldn't have done that without you guys. But I left that mother**** so empty. Don't s*** else matter but winning.
"And when you talk about team sports and you talk about everything that we've gone through, that's been the mission this whole mother——- time. For all the hard work and everything that we've been able to do to this point, take it one play at a time … and ask yourself how you want to be remembered."
