Philadelphia Eagles second-year defensive tackle Jalen Carter registered four tackles, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hit, and two pass breakups in Week 3's 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints.
He's a big reason why the Eagles' defense held New Orleans to just 219 total yards for an average of 4.0 yards per play.
However, Carter was unsatisfied with his performance.
“Trash,” Carter said of how he played against the Saints.
Carter used that word following the Eagles' Monday Night Football loss to the Atlanta Falcons, though he only had one tackle in that game.
Carter went on to say he believed the Birds played well as a team, but he won't give himself a pat on the back just yet.
“I still don’t like how I played,” Carter added. “But I know that we played good as a team today. That’s one thing. I’m happy for that. I think we got some boost in the locker room right now and we just gotta move on to next week and get another dub.”
Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni, on the other hand, disagreed with Carter's self-assessment and gave him the game ball.
Carter has racked up eight tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and two pass breakups through the first three weeks.
While those are decent stats to start the year, Carter revealed his main goal is to get sacks, which the Eagles' defense has struggled to do with just four total on the season so far.
“I don’t know. I gotta be like Khalil Mack, get like six sacks in one game,” Carter said. “Nah, I’m just playing. But I don’t know man. I feel like I love sacks, I know that’s big, I love tackles, I love everything, but I don’t know. Just getting a dub as a team makes me happy. But I still gotta see more out of myself.”
Carter had six sacks as a rookie last year, but the Eagles are relying on him to step up and replace the production of Fletcher Cox. Hopefully, things pick up for him in that area starting next week, though what he did against the Saints worked out well for the Birds.
