An NFL insider thinks the Philadelphia Eagles should consider signing an eight-time Pro Bowler in free agency this offseason.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote this week that Philly should look into signing former Los Angeles Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Wagner was released by the Rams last week which means he can get a head start on free agency.

From Sports Illustrated:

Bobby Wagner’s clearly not what he was, but still has something to offer in terms of leadership and championship experience for a team that’s young in its front seven. I’d wonder out loud about the Eagles’ potential interest. T.J. Edwards is a free agent, as are Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Javon Hargrave, so if Wagner comes affordable, he could be a nice insurance policy and veteran presence for a group in transition.

If Wagner is affordable, then this is a no-brainer (Wagner made $7.2 million last season, but he was scheduled to make $11 million in 2023).

Breer is correct that Wagner isn't the superstar that he once was. The former Utah State standout turns 33 this summer, so he doesn't have too many years left in his career.

But he's still a great leader and someone that would provide some important leadership in the locker room.

Wagner is also just a year removed from a Pro Bowl appearance, so while he may not be one of the best linebackers in the NFL anymore, he's still an above-average player that could certainly help the Eagles in 2023.

The California native has spent his entire football career on the west coast, so that could be a roadblock to signing Wagner that might need to be considered.
