There is no better magician than Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman when it comes to working the phones for a trade.

But first-time GM Adam Peters of the Washington Commanders might be on to him, and a new behind-the-scenes look at the Eagles' trade-up for defensive back Cooper DeJean in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft showed that.

While Roseman was able to snag No. 40 from Washington, he attempted to finesse Peters into taking Philly's pick 210 rather than their No. 161.

"You're a pain in the a–," Peters said before Howie gave in and handed over picks 50, 53, and 161 for 40, 78, and 152 in order to draft DeJean.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn leans in to ask Peters about the trade value, realizing they made out pretty well for not having to give up picks No. 67 or 70.

Eagles Didn't Think They Would Land Cooper DeJean

In the first video that came out following the draft, we were able to see that Roseman didn't think they'd land DeJean.

The Eagles were all-in on DeJean at the start of Day 2 of the NFL draft and already had planned to trade up to get him.

But then the Los Angeles Rams traded up with the Carolina Panthers and Roseman thought his plans were crushed.

"Ah, that's it," Roseman said, believing the Rams would select DeJean at No. 39.

But instead, the Rams picked defensive tackle Braden Fiske.

Roseman didn't hold back his excitement. 'Yes!," he said as he got on the phone with Peters to trade up for DeJean at No. 40.

While the trade didn't work out exactly like Roseman would have hoped, DeJean was widely projected as a first-round pick going into the draft, so he was a steal on Day 2 and an automatic win for the Birds.

"Cooper, it's Howie Roseman brother," Roseman said on his draft call with the Iowa standout, "You're a f—— Eagle. Let's go! You sat way too long."
