The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to make another big roster move ahead of NFL free agency.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team is releasing veteran cornerback Avonte Maddox.

"The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing CB Avonte Maddox after six seasons, per sources. He had a $9.6 million salary cap hit for 2024. The two sides will keep talking and are open to a reunion," Schefter posted on X/Twitter.

The move frees up just about $2 million in additional cap space. Last week, the team released safety veteran Kevin Byard which saved the team $13 million against the cap.

The Eagles initially selected Maddox in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and he has been with Philly ever since.

Maddox was a beast in his first four seasons with the team, but injuries have riddled his career over the last two years, keeping him limited to 13 total games.

Through six seasons with the Eagles, Maddox had 191 solo tackles, 59 assists, three sacks, one fumble recovery and 4 interceptions.

If Maddox and the Eagles can't come to terms on a new deal, then he will enter NFL free agency on March 11 and be free to sign with any other team.
