The Philadelphia Eagles received some unfortunate news ahead of Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

Though the news wasn't exactly surprising.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Indianapolis Colts have made Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen their top target to replace Frank Reich as the franchise's full-time head coach.

If this deal goes down after the Super Bowl, and it probably will, it's a tough loss for the Eagles.

Steichen has done a fantastic job during his two seasons in Philly and he'll certainly be missed.

The good news for the Eagles is that quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson can slide into the offensive coordinator role in Philadelphia, so there will be some continuity there for quarterback Jalen Hurts.

This is the second time in five years, by the way, that Indy has hired an Eagles offensive coordinator as their head coach.

In 2018, the Colts hired Reich as their head coach after he had spent the previous two seasons as the Eagles offensive coordinator (Reich, like Steichen, was also the Chargers' offensive coordinator before he was in Philly).

As for Steichen's new job, he'll likely have a rookie quarterback to develop in Indy. The Colts have the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and there's a chance they trade up to land either Bryce Young or CJ Stroud. They could also draft Will Levis or Anthony Richardson.

It's certainly not an ideal situation for Philly, but they can worry about that next week. For now, the focus is on beating the Kanas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
