The Philadelphia Eagles defense could look to add a familiar face to the mix in the coming weeks. A former defensive back who had a knack for making a big play is available once again, and concerns regarding Philly’s depth could push them to bring him back.

Eagles could try to reunite with CB Darius Slay after recent release

The Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran cornerback Darius Slay agreed to part ways on Tuesday, opening the door for him to land elsewhere. The Eagles have struggled with cornerback depth this season, so a reunion could make plenty of sense.

“Darius Slay interested in continuing to play and will consider other teams (assuming he clears waivers), agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey said.” — Ian Rapoport

Slay’s wife, Jenn, hinted to something in the works for the experienced defensive back with a single emoji post on X/Twitter.

Slay struggled to a 58.3 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus, but that was alongside a depleted and somewhat unproven CB group with Pittsburgh. He often was on the field more than a team would probably prefer at this point of his career. With the Eagles set at the top of their depth chart at CB, he could slot in further down to provide depth.

It remains to be seen if the two sides have interest in each other after Philly released Slay earlier this year. Slay spent five seasons with the Eagles prior to his departure. Slay has also dealt with multiple injuries this season but could be nearing full strength sooner than later.

So far this season, Slay has recorded 36 tackles and one fumble recovery.
