Driving the Philadelphia Eagles' offense has been the run game.
And it has worked to the tune of a 13-2 record, with one of those two losses coming without star quarterback Jalen Hurts. Though winning is paramount come Sunday, Philadelphia also has an opportunity to make history. With three rushing touchdowns in Sunday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints, the Eagles will surpass the 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers for most rushing touchdowns by a team in a season in the Super Bowl era.
The magic number is 33.
Currently, Philadelphia has 31 touchdowns.
The rushing effort is led by Hurts who has 13 rushing touchdowns. Next for the Eagles is running back Miles Sanders who has 11.
They are the only pair of teammates with at least 10 rushing touchdowns in 2022.
Also on the list are the 2006 San Diego Chargers with 32 touchdowns, Kansas City with 32 in 2003, and Kansas City, again, with 31 in 2004.
In a historic season for Philadelphia, there is an opportunity for more history to be made on the ground. If Hurts is able to play, the rushing touchdown record is all but guaranteed. And if Philadelphia misses the record in Week 17, the team has another shot in Week 18 against the New York Giants.
