The Philadelphia Eagles are now 3-0 on the season and earning more and more respect as we currently speak. They are now being considered as not only one of the best teams in the league but the best team in the league.
The defense is now firing on all cylinders after a rough first week against the Detroit Lions. The offense is one of the league's best and is legit unstoppable. However, they did start slow against the Washington Commanders in Week 3.
On Monday, Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni was asked by the media why they started slow.
"That's a good defense," Sirianni said. "I have a lot of respect for that defense, especially in the interior line with Payne and Allen and Sweat. They did a good job of stopping us early and I think what really got us going was the deep ball to DeVonta. They were kind of squatting on some things and we went deep and that got us going.
"Then after that, the defense got a huge, huge turnover there with Brandon Graham strip and Javon [Hargrave] recovering. And then really good execution on that screen pass and I think sometimes it just takes to see the ball go through the hoop, you know… First of all, credit to their defense, secondly, credit to our defense to get the big turnover and DeVonta and Jalen making a huge play, and then getting that touch for the touchdown was big."
The Eagles started slow, yes, but the offense eventually got rolling. They are one of the best in the league so far and I don't think there is any arguing that.
However, this isn't the first time this season the offense started slow. While, yes, it was Week 1, the Eagles also started slowly against the Lions. So, really, there is only one game so far in this young season where the Eagles didn't start slow on offense.
This can be something to monitor, too. When you think about it, the Eagles aren't playing the best competition to start the year either. They played the Lions, who were the second worst team in football last season.
They have played the Vikings, who are expected to be good this year, but weren't last season. And of course, this week they played the Commanders, a team who wasn't good last year and won't be this year.
While we all want them to compete right now, there is a noticeable problem with the offense that needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed soon. Luckily, this team is great at fixing their problems, just like they did in Week 1 with the defense.
