Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift put on quite the show in front of his hometown last week, which won him Offensive Player of the Week.
However, he wouldn't have gotten that chance if it weren't for starter Kenny Gainwell being sidelined with a rib injury.
And the Eagles won't go ahead and name him the starter heading into Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but they do have a plan for him.
"If he’s got the hot hand on Monday night, we’ll keep rolling with him," Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni said during Thursday's press conference. "We feel really good about the work he puts in to make sure his body is right. …. You’re running the ball like that, give it to him 35 times. It’s hard not to do that."
Keep in mind Swift had not had close to that kind of game since 2021 and played through a shoulder and ankle injury last season, so it's important that his health comes first.
In addition to that, Gainwell returned to practice practice on Thursday after being inactive on Thursday, according to NBC Sports' Dave Zangaro.
In Week 1's win over the New England Patriots, Gainwell carried the ball 14 times for 54 yards and caught all 4 of his targets for 20 more yards. Meanwhile, Swift and Boston Scott combined for just two carries and six yards.
Depending on whether or not Gainwell is available come Monday will depend on how much Swift is used and if he gets the start, but like Sirianni said, if he's got the "hot hand," then you can count on him getting the ball every. single. time.
The Eagles will release their first injury report later this afternoon.
