The Philadelphia Eagles are embracing the next man up mentality following news that quarterback Jalen Hurts (shoulder) will miss Saturday’s game on the road against the Dallas Cowboys.

A fan favorite in Philadelphia, Gardner Minshew is in line to make his first start of the season. However, Minshew is one of the more experienced back-up quarterbacks in terms of career starts.

In his fourth season in the NFL, Saturday will mark Minshew’s 23 start in the NFL. He holds an 8-14 record as a starter, having thrown 41 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions.

As Minshew Mania picks up throughout the City of Brotherly Love, so does the optimism surrounding the Minshew’s promotion.

The Cowboys’ defense is one of the NFL’s most-feared units. However, one of Minshew’s strengths as a passer could completely neutralize Dallas’ plan of attack.

Since Minshew arrived in the NFL in the 2019 season, he possesses the league’s best TD-to-INT ratio when pressured at 17 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

This is important because Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn loves sending an extra rusher. The Cowboys blitz on 27 percent of its opponents’ drop backs, which ranks 11th in the NFL.

Minshew has made a name for himself by performing in high-leverage scenarios. Standing tall in the face of pressure is why he is beloved around the football world. If Minshew can hold down the fort by completing the season sweep of the Cowboys, he will add another feather to what is already a fairly decorated cap.
