Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback, is only in his third season, and his second season starting the full season. That's crazy to say out loud and to think it has already been three years.
It feels as if he was drafted just yesterday. This is a guy who the Eagles will get to see have a lot of ups and downs throughout his career, with mostly ups, of course. They will, and already have got to see him mature, even more.
They will see his game to levels no one ever thought imaginable, as he has already shown flashes of potentially being one of the league's best quarterbacks.
But there is one other thing he is showing as of late, that would pit him in the conversation of the best quarterbacks in the league. Hurts has a trait that all of, or most of, those guys have, and it may be one of the most important traits.
"It's no method to the madness," Hurts said on Wednesday when asked about his ability to stay calm in tight moments.
"I try not to ever get too high or too low, and that's in every area of my game, you know. You talk about the temperature of the room, I set the temperature. So, that's what it is. I control the things that I can. I can control how I respond to something. I set the motion, and we just go. It's in preparation. It's in the trust in the people around you…"
If you still don't know what I'm referring to, let's take a look at Hurts as he was sitting on the bench on the road against the Indianapolis Colts as he was down in the fourth quarter.
That's the same way he looked when he won the game. Even keeled.
Not a big difference. Hurts has the same trait that Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers have when it comes to being down, but know, and having so much confidence in yourself to know that you are never truly out of it.
As of late, the guy we have seen do that the most are Patrick Mahomes, who just did it last week against the Chargers in Los Angeles.
Not many guys in the league have that ability or trait. It isn't an easy one to come by. But Hurts does.
If that alone does tell you he will be a great quarterback for the rest of his time in the league, then I don't know what else will.
