Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox wasn't the only one thrown off by the speculation that head coach Nick Sirianni, along with other staff members, could be fired in the coming days.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts also found the rumors surprising, despite a historic late-season collapse followed by a 32-9 blowout playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I was asked that question the other day about that and what’d I say? I didn’t know that was a thing,” Hurts told reporters during locker room cleanout on Wednesday, via CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr. “I had no idea that was a thing, so I don’t see why that would be the case. We plan on fixing everything that we’ve done and growing together, coach Sirianni, Brian [Johnson], everyone.”
Just because Sirianni has received some key player endorsements in the last 48 hours doesn't mean that the Eagles' coaching staff won't be shaken up at all.
Sirianni has been working with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman on a plan and is expected to meet with owner Jeffrey Lurie in the near future, sources tell The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
If Sirianni presents a solid pitch to Lurie, then he will keep his job. However, if Lurie doesn't approve, then there's a chance Sirianni could be out as head coach.
For now, Lurie is in St. Maarten, per Fan Nation's Ed Kracz, so it doesn't look like he's too concerned with firing Sirianni anytime soon.
