The Philadelphia Eagles are set to be without defensive back James Bradberry for several weeks.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday morning that Bradberry suffered a lower leg injury in Wednesday's practice, adding that "although surgery is not required, the injury involves a tendon and recovery time for an injury will take 6-8 weeks."

Bradberry's roster status had been up in the air all preseason following a down year last fall.

But with the Eagles light at safety, they moved Bradberry from cornerback to that room, which ultimately saved his chances of being cut.

Now that the Eagles are set to be without Bradberry, they're looking even lighter there since starter Sydney Brown is still on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list with as he continues to make his way back from an ACL injury.

The Eagles still have Reed Blankenship, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Avonte Maddox and Tristin McCollum on the active roster and practice squad member Caden Sterns available, but expect them to look outside for more help.

Bradberry's Injury May Have Crushed Eagles' Trade Plans

The Eagles may be locked into Bradberry for now but it sounds like they have had plans to use him as trade bait when general manager Howie Roseman refused to discuss his future with the team.

When asked on cutdown day, "Do you expect (James Bradberry) to be on the roster (for) the entirety of the season?"

Roseman couldn't confirm.

"Obviously, when you're talking about our 53-man roster at any position, things come up," Roseman said. "Opportunities arise for our football team, for other football teams, so I don't want to get into that with not only him, but anyone, because that backs you in a corner. We say this to our players. Our word's all we got. When we tell our players something, when we tell other teams something, we're going to abide by that. I'd hate to get up here and be dramatic about anything about anyone on the roster because through the course of the season things come up and opportunities arise. He's on the team because we think he can help our team."

While Roseman's response is valid, it would be a different story if asked about any of their superstar players.

But regardless of whether or not they are looking to move on from him, that doesn't mean the Eagles still don't have some faith in the versatile veteran.

"James always has had really good football instincts," Roseman said. "When you see him play safety every day here and see his ability to diagnose his football instincts. I think for all of us, that's a transition, that's a different position than playing outside corner.

"He's got a skill set. It's a long season. We already know that he's had tremendous success in this league playing outside corner as well. With the goals that we have for this football team, having a veteran player like that on the roster that we know we can rely on when called upon, we felt like was important."

Per Jeff McClane, the Eagles recently had trade talks with some teams and the Tennessee Titans were one of them, but no deal came about. When Bradberry is eligible to return, it will be before the November 5 trade deadline.
