The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to have plenty of competition for one of its star veterans according to the latest report.
Heavy.com’s Matt Lombardo is reporting that Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is expected to receive “significant" interest in free agency.
Hargrave, 30, is coming off a career-high 11 sacks in 2022. He is just one of the many free agents Eagles general manager Howie Roseman must make a decision on this offseason.
Re-signing Hargrave would likely cost Philadelphia a pretty penny. Spotrac projects his market value to hover around $20 million per year. That would put him on par with premier interior defensive linemen Chris Jones and DeForest Buckner. Jones and Buckner are respectively the second and third highest paid defensive tackles in football.
The question for Roseman is whether or not paying an interior defensive lineman $20 million per year would be worth it. With Jordan Davis playing on a rookie deal, Philadelphia won’t be totally devastated if Hargrave elects to sign elsewhere.
Roseman has shown discipline when it comes to the salary cap while also maintaining the appropriate talent to contend for the Super Bowl. This offseason will be full of difficult decisions, but Hargrave’s future might be at the top of his priority list.
