The Philadelphia Eagles have plenty of reasons to celebrate after dismantling the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. However, the cherry on top might have been defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s comments immediately following the win.

“Philly is keeping me. Good, bad or indifferent, I’m staying here,” Gannon told Fox 29 after the win.

Gannon has received plenty of praise over the last few weeks, specifically from head coach Nick Sirriani. At one point, Gannon was though to be the frontrunner for the Houston Texans’ head coaching job.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reports that the Texans are now leaning towards hiring 49ers defensive coordinator, and former Texan, DeMeco Ryans as its next head coach.

Continuity is critical in the NFL. By retaining Gannon, Philly’s defense will be able to hit the ground running in 2023, but that’s a bridge the Birds can cross at a later date. For now, they’ve got a Super Bowl to prepare for.
