The Philadelphia Eagles may not be losing offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the Dallas Cowboys after all.
That's because the Cowboys are set to interview Brian Schottenheimer, the team's current and "well-respected" offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Jane Slater.
"The #Cowboys are expected to interview their own OC Brian Schottenheimer for their vacant head coaching job, per me and @SlaterNFL," Rapoport reports. "Well-respected in the building, Schottenheimer has been an OC for more than a decade. Intriguing option to take the next step."
Schottenheimer is also the new betting favorite to land the Cowboys' head coach job at -250, leaving Moore now sitting behind him at +250.
51-year-old Schottenheimer isn't a name that many expected to pop up on the Cowboys' list of head coach candidates but he makes a lot of sense since it would mean that quarterback Dak Prescott wouldn't have to learn a new offense. And no quarterback wants to do that — especially one coming off a season-ending injury.
While Schottenheimer has plenty of coaching experience under his belt dating back to 2001, he doesn't have a successful resume quite like the one Moore boasts, which is one reason to believe that the Eagles might not be out of the woods from keeping their OC locked down just yet.
It will be interesting to see which route the Cowboys take, though the interview process is far from over.
Moore has interviewed with Dallas via Zoom at least once so far. However, he won't be able to meet with them face-to-face until the Eagles' post-season run officially comes to an end.
Dallas has also interviewed Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier and former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
