The Philadelphia Eagles (5-0) are sure to have their hands full when the Dallas Cowboys (4-1) and their elite pass rush come to town for a Sunday Night Football showdown in Week 6.
The Cowboys’ defense is one of the most feared units in the NFL. Dallas ranks second in the league with 20 sacks on the season, only one back of the San Francisco 49ers with a total of 21.
However, the Cowboys’ biggest strength can be counteracted by a sturdy Eagles offensive line. When healthy, Philadelphia has one of the best units in the trenches the league has to offer.
It’s an offensive line anchored by a couple of All-Pros in C Jason Kelce and RT Lane Johnson. The only question Philly has up front surrounds the availability of the team’s starting left tackle, Jordan Mailata.
Mailata missed last week’s win over the Arizona Cardinals due to a shoulder injury. As for his status heading into Sunday night’s contest, Mailata declared himself to be at "80 percent" healthy.
Whether Mailata playing at, or just above, 80 percent gives the Eagles a better chance to win than a fully healthy Jack Driscoll is for the coaching staff to decide. Mailata was a limited participant in Eagles practice this week, practicing with a brace on his shoulder.
No matter if it’s Driscoll or Mailata that gets the call on Sunday, shutting down the Cowboys’ prolific pass rushers in Demarcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons, and Dorance Armstrong will be paramount to offensive success.
As for when a decision might come down, it sounds like head coach Nick Sirianni will play his cards close to his vest before eventually making his final decision on game day.
