The Philadelphia Eagles made a smart "under-the-radar" move on Wednesday ahead of the start of the 2022 season.
According to multiple reports, the Eagles are signing free agent wide receiver Auden Tate to their practice squad.
Tate is a former Florida State standout who scored 16 touchdowns during his final two seasons in Tallahassee.
After being selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Tate spent four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. His best season came in 2019 when he caught 40 passes for 575 yards and one touchdown.
This past season, Tate played in just seven games, catching three passes for 39 yards and one touchdown. Between injuries and playing behind the three-headed monster of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd, there just wasn't much opportunity for Tate to make an impact.
Eagles assistant head coach/running backs coach Jemal Singleton was in Cincinnati with Tate during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, so there's a bit of familiarity there with the Philadelphia coaching staff.
Tate is a depth signing for the Eagles. He likely won't make a huge impact for Philly this season, but he has plenty of NFL experience and should provide some solid depth for Nick Sirianni's squad.
