Dallas Goedert scored his second touchdown of the season in the Philadelphia Eagles Week 13 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
He then exited the game early with a knee injury
At first glance, Goedert's injury was nothing serious, but now he could miss some time following an MRI and further testing, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"Goedert’s knee injury will likely sideline him on a week-to-week basis, an NFL source said," McLane reports. "Goedert could be a candidate for short-term IR based on his recovery, but the injury isn’t season-ending."
When asked about Goedert's injury status on Wednesday, head coach Nick Sirianni hesitated to rule him out early ahead of the team's Week 14 game against the Carolina Panthers.
"We’ll see on [TE] Dallas [Goedert] as the week continues on," Sirianni said.
The Eagles have already signaled that they'll likely be without Goedert after signing tight end C.J. Uzomah to the active roster.
And Sirianni had a lot of good things to say about him.
"As far as [TE] C.J. [Uzomah] goes, veteran. What a great teammate he is," Sirianni said. "As you look back and you talk to teams that he’s been on as we got him here on this team, everyone says the same thing: What a great teammate. I think you could ask his teammates, particularly in the tight end room and the offense, what type of guy he is, and they’d say the same thing: Great teammate. Glue guy. Has done some nice things on special teams and has taken advantage of some of the opportunities he’s had."
The Eagles elevated Uzomah for the last three games, so signing him to the active roster was their only choice unless they wanted to take a chance on losing him to another team. It was, however, perfect timing.
Uzomah doesn't light up the stat sheet but he is a great blocking tight end, which is how the Eagles use him.
"He had a really good play in four-minute the other day that he came through and led through on a block on a really good player and was able to get movement there," Sirianni said. "He just brings veteran reliability, and, again, bringing guys together on the football team. And then, he’s had some big production where we know if we can throw him the ball, he can do something with it and make plays. And then what he does as a blocker."
If Goedert isn't available for some time, the Eagles will be just fine leaning on Grant Calcaterra and Jack Stoll in addition to Uzomah.
