The Philadelphia Eagles and Nick Sirianni got another massive win on Saturday.
They opened their playoff run with a blowout divisional round victory over the New York Giants by a score of 38-7. Simply put, the Eagles dominated every facet of the game.
They got off to a quick start in the first quarter and had built a 28-0 lead by halftime. There was no coming back from that for the Giants.
Sirianni was passionate after the game as per usual. He discussed how ready his players were to get their first win of this postseason.
Additionally, Sirianni talked about how a former legendary college basketball coach has played a big role in his coaching and the Eagles' play this year.
That coach is Jay Wright. Wright coached Villanova for over two decades and found tons of success. Sirianni and Wright have a strong relationship and share stories.
The Eagles HC explained how Wright has impacted his team.
"What was the message to the team after the game? What was the locker room like after the first playoff win?" (Eliot Shorr-Parks)
NICK SIRIANNI: "It was lit in there. It was fun in there. You have to enjoy those moments. Have to enjoy those times. It was fun. We had a good time in there.
But the message was what the schedule was and what it's been all year. I don't care who we play, right, it's about when the motivation
— and this is something that coach Jay Wright talks to me a lot about — when the motivation is for each other, it doesn't matter who you play. It's about not wanting to let your teammates down. He is so convicted. When he tells me things like that, I love it. I have adopted that message.
So, that was what it was about. Like, hey, we're going to rest tomorrow, we're going to figure out who we play tomorrow, but make no mistake about it, our biggest motivation is the love that we have in this room and not wanting to let each other down."
Sirianni clearly credits Wright plenty for helping him get here with the Eagles.
His message since his introductory press conference has always been about the motivation to play for each other. He wants his team to truly care for each other as teammates, men, and friends. It looks like the Eagles have certainly adopted that philosophy.
Philadelphia will play either the Dallas Cowboys or San Francisco 49ers next week in the NFC conference championship.
