Eagles offense may suffer another massive gut punch before the NFL offseason even truly gets underway after latest report
The offensive line is going to be a concern regardless of the outcome heading into the 2026 season for Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Eagles offensive line took a step back in 2025. That is certain. That being said, injuries mounted, and overall bland offensive play calling didn’t help the unit, either.
Now, offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland is leaving the team, and there’s questions about the future for two, not just one, of their best trench players on offense. That’s incredibly concerning for both the short and long-term future for Nick Sirianni’s team.
Lane Johnson is still deciding whether or not to retire following Stoutland news
The All-Pro talent at tackle missed eight total games last season for the Eagles. That lack of presence was felt in a major way, and it may be a precursor to the adjustments that Philly’s offense will have to make if he chooses to hang up his cleats.
That scenario remains a possibility, and no one could blame Johnson for that. He’s given a ton to the Eagles during his 13-year career with the team. He’s not sure if he’s returning to the field, according to Jeff McLane.
“In terms of Lane and his future, here’s what I can say: He’s definitely not sure if he’s coming back or not, is the impression I get. You would think maybe this would make it a little less likely,” McLane said. “When you’re looking at retirement, it’s, ‘Can my body do it again? Do I want to do it again? Lane has a very high standard for himself.” — Jeff McLane via the Uncovering the Birds podcast
No one has encapsulated being a lifelong Eagles like Johnson, but that run may come to an end soon.
Landon Dickerson’s playing future is shockingly uncertain
According to recent reports on his future, Landon Dickerson isn’t sure if he’s going to continue playing in the NFL or not, either. He has dealt with a plethora of injuries so far in his playing career, including his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide. That weighs on players when it is a year-after-year endeavor.
He’s considering retirement already, even at just 27 years old.
“Landon Dickerson may be even more of a question mark [than Lane Johnson],” McLane revealed on the podcast.
Mike Garafolo backed up this sentiment on social media, too. He’s heard rumblings that Dickerson’s future in the NFL isn’t as clear cut as fans would hope.
“An offseason of significant change for the Eagles could include G Landon Dickerson‘s uncertain future… I’ve heard some of the same. Only 27 and five years into his career but his body has been through a lot. TBD.” — Garafolo
Either of these losses would be a roster-altering blow for Philadelphia. Losing both in the same offseason? That would be a true nightmare scenario, and general manager Howie Roseman and co. would have a ton of work to do in order to rebuild most of the OL for next season and beyond.
