The Philadelphia Eagles are no strangers to aggressive moves on the trade market or during the 2026 NFL Draft.

With that in mind, a recent coaching news drop around the team made me think that general manager Howie Roseman may be even more inclined to trade for an impactful veteran or two during this offseason and/or at next season’s trade deadline.

Vic Fangio’s retirement concerns should push Eagles to make impactful trade

The experienced, well-respected defensive coordinator for the Eagles reportedly considered retirement heavily after the team’s season concluded earlier than anyone would have hoped in Philly.

“According to multiple sources, the Philadelphia Eagles got a big scare recently when legendary defensive coordinator Vic Fangio informed the team that he was retiring from coaching in the NFL. However, sources said that Fangio was convinced by the team’s brass to stay for at least one more season in 2026.” — Jimmy Kempski

If the Eagles did convince Fangio to run it back for 2026, it still looms large that he could be done after one more year. Hanging up his headset is clearly on his mind, and he’s been around for quite some time. It would make sense.

Accordingly, the Eagles should be motivated even further to stockpile proven talent on their roster for 2026. They have some free agents who they’d probably love to keep around in players like Nakobe Dean, Dallas Goedert, among others, but that isn’t a given.

Depending on who stays in the fold, the Eagles GM and coaching staff should find ways to improve via the trade market.

The Eagles have four picks in the top 100 of the 2026 NFL Draft, and they also possess four picks between rounds four and five. That is plenty of capital to potentially swing at least one offseason trade that would acquire an influential piece for Philly in 2026.

EJ Smith had an update on Fangio on Monday afternoon, noting that the Eagles expect him to remain as their DC next season. That does not rule out him retiring after the 2026 season either, though.

While Vic Fangio did seriously entertain retiring as recently as last week, my understanding that is no longer the case and that the #Eagles are confident in his return at this point after much persuasion. He’s expected to be back as defensive coordinator next season. — EJ Smith

If Fangio does return, Philadelphia has to do everything they can to make sure it is worth it for the DC. Being aggressive and motivated are two traits that Roseman has always possessed, so I won’t be surprised if the make waves this offseason to ensure they have a great chance at another Super Bowl run next year.
