Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie spoke at the NFL league meetings this week, where he sent a loud and clear message about how he feels about Nick Sirianni being the team's head coach for years to come.
Lurie didn't come right out and say it, but he did hint that a contract extension is "soon" on the way for Sirianni.
"Nick is going to be our coach. We don't talk publicly [about contracts], we never have, but you guys I'm sure will find out soon enough that Nick will be our coach going forward," Lurie said. "He has done an outstanding job."
Sirianni will enter the final year of the five-year contract he initially signed in 2021 during his first year as head coach with the Birds.
He has since led the Eagles to a 48-20 regular-season record and taken them to two Super Bowl appearances, including a historic 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs this past year.
The Super Bowl win is even bigger for the Eagles since it happened right after their disastrous 2023 season, where they went undefeated for 10 games before going 1-6.
The Eagles did make a big change with Sirianni, putting him in more of a CEO position and letting the offensive coordinator call the plays.
However, this expected contract extension just goes to show the trust and respect that not only the front office has in Sirianni but also the players, and that is huge as the Eagles continue to build a competitive and winning team.
"Everything that I had hoped for with Nick, he embodies, whether it's connection, intelligence in so many ways from football intelligence, emotional intelligence, managing of people, hiring of assistant coaches, growth mindset at all times. "
Philadelphia Eagles fans will love Nick Sirianni’s reassurance on their new QB coach hire
Much-needed reassurance.
