Finding a way to get defensive lineman Jalen Carter so late in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft could be one of the picks of the weekend for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Carter is a beast that has mountains of upside as a talent on such a great defensive line, but some off-field issues for Carter did cause some concerns during the draft process.

The good news for Eagles fans is that this shouldn't prove to be an issue for Philly. General manager Howie Roseman had the following to say about Carter when asked about their homework on the young stud:

"Yeah, I think that for us, our investment is a huge part. I’ve talked about [Senior Advisor to the General Manager/Chief Security Officer] Dom [DiSandro] many, many times about the work that he does, which is the best in the National Football League, and we understand that all these players, they need to be developed. They’re coming into the league at a very young age. They’re not finished products. I think all of us when we were 21 and 22 hopefully have grown a lot from that time, and you just really want to get to know the person and what’s in their heart. I think when we got to know Jalen, we just felt like here’s a kid that he does love football. Obviously, he’s a winner. He won in high school, he won in college. We feel like we have really good people in this building. We have really good support staff. We have really good players who are good people. We have really good coaches. We felt like it was a good fit for us."

Roseman makes several statements here that show how little this staff worries about Carter off the field and they all make perfect sense.

This veteran roster isn't going to let Carter become a distraction in any aspect of his game. Players like Jason Kelce and Jason Peters are some of the best veteran leaders in the NFL based on their time and character, and Roseman is smart to take this into account when selecting a player that does have some question marks off the field.

Jalen Carter is a kid. One mistake outside of football isn't enough to derail a career. The Eagles got an excellent player that will probably go into the best-possible situation to grow as a professional.
