The transition from college to the NFL level is not an easy one.
However, Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell has made it look like a breeze.
Eagles' defensive coordinator Vic Fangio confirmed the Eagles' 2024 first-round pick of Toledo is going to be on the field early and often following a successful preseason.
In fact, Mitchell is slotted to start Week 1 in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers.
He will get a majority of snaps at nickel, but also on the outside in some packages. Mitchell never played nickel at Toledo, but with his insane athleticism and high football IQ, he was able to pick it up naturally.
“(We knew) pretty quickly because we did play him at nickel early on and he did fine in there,” Fangio said, via NBC Sports' Dave Zangaro. “I do think for him personally, it would be good to lock in at one spot, because even though we've been very happy with his development and his learning abilities, he still is a rookie, and I do think if he can get comfortable at one spot, it would be to his benefit. But we may not be able to do that.”
The hope is that Mitchell can eventually focus on playing one position with the preference being opposite Darius Slay at outside corner, but until then, they're going to use him wherever.
And no matter where Mitchell lines up to start the season, he won't disappoint.
“Is he ready?” Darius Slay said. “Is he ready? He’s been ready since he was born.”
The Eagles kick off their 2024 NFL regular season on Friday night (8:15 p.m. ET) against Jordan Love and the Packers where we will get a first look at Mitchell in true form.
