Philadelphia Eagles miss out on potential “ring-chasing’ WRs in latest free agency breakdown
Philadelphia has an advantage to signing veteran free agent talent.
The Philadelphia Eagles will focus on adding skill position talent this offseason for their new-look offensive coaching staff. Veterans may be at the top of their list, simply because they remain in a winning window in the NFC.
Philly will value players that have proven they can perform at the pro level and will need a capable WR3 option, at minimum, if Jahan Dotson doesn’t re-sign ahead of free agency kicking off.
Eagles snubbed as a “best fit” for top free agent wide receivers
“Ring-chasing” can sometimes be seen as a derogatory term for veteran players around the NFL, but isn’t the goal of a bulk of the active talent in the league to win the Super Bowl annually?
Players, particularly ones with experience, often realize during their careers how exciting winning it all is or would be. For some, once they win one, they understand how badly they want another title.
In a recent free agent WR breakdown from A to Z Sports, contributors ranked the best available wideouts entering the market this offseason. I decided to pinpoint a few who may have winning a ring at the forefront of their mind when choosing a new team, giving the Eagles an upper hand in their pursuit of them.
Mike Evans
“Evans may be entering his age-33 season, but he can still get the job done at a high level. He can play inside and out, he still wins on deep balls, and his elite catch radius makes him one of the NFL’s best red zone threats. He is a good run blocker and continues to improve his route running, as well.
The only valid concern are injuries, as he’s now missed 12 games over the last two years and has played just one fully healthy season since 2021. – Evan Winter
Three best fits: Bucs, Commanders, 49ers”
Evans already has one Super Bowl ring, but if he wants to play next season as has been reported, joining a team with a better chance at winning it all than Tampa Bay should be on his radar. The Eagles fit that bill and need more size at WR.
The future of A.J. Brown in Philly remains cloudy, but either way, Evans’ profile would provide production at multiple levels for the Eagles next season.
Deebo Samuel
“Deebo can still go. Now the specifics of his role are important to have ironed out, as he’s best as a schemed touch player who can be set up with opportunities as a run after catch weapon.
Given that specificity and his age, he feels like a player who is destined for a one-year deal with some strong incentives to help pour more earning power that is proportionate to his on-field performance. I like him for some contenders looking for another weapon. – Kyle Crabbs
Three best fits: Chiefs, Ravens, Steelers”
Samuel played better football in 2025 than he gets credit for from many folks. With that, his frame and versatility would both provide value in a Sean Mannion offense for 2026. As the article blurb above notes, though, there will be some AFC contenders probably vying for his services as well.
Keenan Allen
“Keenan Allen is no longer the perennial Pro Bowl threat that he was during his prime with the Chargers, but approaching his age 34 season, Allen was more than servicable in 2025. Despite starting in only three games, Allen recorded 777 receiving yards. You can tell his athleticism has started to erode a bit, however, as he posted the least amount of yards per reception in his career.
The good news for Allen is that he was never a burner or athletic marvel on the perimeter anyway. Any team looking to add a veteran presence who can still work the short to intermediate passing game as a reliable third-down option should look towards Allen. Especially since it feels like he will be on one-year deals until he decides to call it a long, fruitful career. – Rob Gregson
Three best fits: Ravens, Colts, Broncos”
Allen may be the player I most see as a fit for Philly. His bigger frame, exquisite timing, and strong hands would pair well with a player like Devonta Smith. Not to mention, that skill set is valuable for a quarterback like Jalen Hurts who wants to stay on schedule and precise in the intermediate game.
Each of these receivers make sense in some capacity for Philadelphia, but there will be plenty of suitors for their talent and potential on offense. We’ll see how active the Eagles are in the WR free agent market in the coming weeks.
