The Philadelphia Eagles made a bit of a surprise move on Monday by releasing safety Jaquiski Tartt.
Tartt, a second-round selection by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2015 NFL Draft, was signed by the Eagles in June.
Philadelphia doesn't have a ton of safety depth, which is why this move was somewhat unexpected.
The release of Tartt means that undrafted free agent Reed Blankenship, who had a great training camp, has almost certainly made the 53-man roster.
Blankenship was a solid player at Middle Tennessee State and he has a lot of starting experience. It's not a total shocker that he appears to be set to be part of the Eagles' 53-man roster despite his status as an undrafted free agent.
Philadelphia, however, could still stand to add a safety to the roster in the wake of Tartt's release.
Baltimore Ravens safety Chuck Clark, who recently requested a trade, could be a viable option.
Ultimately, the marriage between Tartt and the Eagles just didn't work out. For whatever reason, the two sides just didn't mesh. That happens from time to time and it's wise of the Eagles to go ahead and make the decision now to move on from Tartt instead of waiting until later in the season.
