On Saturday, the Eagles announced that it has activated safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and defensive end Robert Quinn to the 43-man roster ahead of a Week 18 matchup with the New York Giants.
The Eagles’ secondary struggled with Gardner-Johnson sidelined for four games with a lacerated kidney. After all, replacing the NFL’s leader in interceptions (6) is no easy feat.
As for Quinn, the Eagles pass rush stands to benefit greatly, even if he returns as a rotational piece. Since arriving in Philadelphia via trade with the Chicago Bears, Quinn has yet to record a sack in five games.
Eagles fans are hopeful that Quinn can create havoc in the backfield like he was able to do in Chicago last season. Quinn recorded a whopping 18.5 sacks with the Bears in 2021, but has just one sack in 12 games this year.
It’s important for this pair to receive live repetitions in Week 18. Having each missed over a month, shaking off the rust before heading into postseason play will be critical. The Birds are getting healthy at just the right time.
