Philadelphia Eagles safety Sydney Brown returned to the gridiron against the New York Giants in Week 7 for the first time since tearing his ACL in last year's season finale.
Brown played a majority of his snaps on special teams and just nine snaps on defense, logging one tackle and a pass defended in the Eagles' 28-3 win over the Giants.
The Eagles had previously mentioned that they were going to ease Brown back into the lineup since he missed the offseason and is still playing catch up to learning the new defense.
But despite the limited action Brown saw, he was just happy to be back and to make his first tackle of the season.
“Dude, I’ve waited 296 f—ing days to get out there and play football,” Brown said after the win. “I knew it was going to happen. I told myself it was going to happen. It’s a tackle. You know what I mean? It’s a tackle. That’s my job. That’s what I’m supposed to do. I expect nothing less. Just grateful to be back out there. I love this game. When it was taken away from me for a little bit, it was messing with me a little bit. I’m grateful to be back. And excited for the future and what’s next.”
Brown and the Eagles will now get ready to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8, which is also the team that his twin brother and star running back, Chase Brown, plays for.
The two are also best friends and speak every day — expected for this week as they prepare to square off in Cincy.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Brown has worked extremely hard to get back on the field and hopes his next tackle comes against his own blood.
"The way he attacked it in rehab, in the training room, but also just the mental reps he would get," Sirianni said. "Every time you would watch him, he was always getting mental reps, he was always behind the play, he was always just taking steps to simulate that he was in there.
"That guy prepared for this moment. Now I’m happy he’s back. I think it would be sweet if he got a cool hit on his brother [Bengals RB Chase Brown] this week in this game. So happy that he’s back and playing for us again because we know what a spark he can be and the energy that he brings to the team."
