The Eagles lost offensive coordinator Shane Steichen who was officially introduced as the head coach for the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. Hours later on the same day, defensive coordinator Jonathan accepted the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Gannon’s news comes as a bit of a surprise after he made a promise to return to Philly next season. However, after the disappointing result in Super Bowl LVII there will be some Eagles fans who will miss him much less than others.
Head coach Nick Sirianni is faced with the extremely rare task of replacing both coordinators in the same offseason. In fact, the Eagles are the first Super Bowl team to lose both coordinators to head coaching jobs since the 49ers did so in 1994, per NFL Research.
The NFL is a copycat league and it’s hard to blame the Colts and Cardinals for aspiring to emulate the Eagles’ success.
The sting of the Super Bowl loss coupled with the departures of each coordinator stings. But it’s nice to see that the rest of the league considers the Eagles’ model of success to be one worth mirroring.
