The Philadelphia Eagles have an elite offensive line, and now they’re signing a running back who can pick up huge chunks of yards when healthy.

The Eagles are signing running back Rashaad Penny in free agency, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Penny has only managed to play 42 games in five seasons since being selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of San Diego State, but he’s averaged 5.7 yards per carry in his career. Penny has 176 carries for 1,095 yards with eight touchdowns in 15 games over the last two seasons. He’s averaged 6.2 yards per carry over the span of time.

Penny joins running backs Kenneth Gainwell and Trey Sermon on the Eagles’ roster with Miles Sanders and Boston Scott hitting free agency. Penny should be an upgrade if he can stay healthy, but he's struggled with knee, hamstring and calf injuries. His season ended early in 2022 with a broken fibula.
