The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t blow past the entire NFC on its way to Super Bowl LVII by chance. Sure, the team is littered with stars across both sides of the ball, but one longtime Eagle believes the team’s success is due to togetherness instead of talent.
Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox knows what it takes to become a champion in the NFL. The six-time Pro Bowler has spent all 11 seasons of his career in Philadelphia. He was a key cog in the Birds’ Super Bowl run during the 2017 season as well.
When asked to compare this team to 2017’s Super Bowl champs, Cox believes the locker room personalities played a pivotal role along the way.
“It’s really hard to compare those two teams, there were so many different personalities,” Cox told reporters on Friday. “This team, the personalities are way different from the 2017 team. They’re really good teams, and the biggest thing about is that they’re not only really good players, but really good dudes, like really good teammates. I think that’s really the most important part of what got us to this point because nobody in that locker room thinks they’re better than the next person. When you got that, it’s hard to beat guys that connect and compete the way that we do.”
It’s not always this easy to manage a team full of elite talent. Egos and individualistic mindsets can often get in the way. For that problem to have not surfaced during the season is a testament to the Eagles leadership group, which Cox is most definitely a part of.
