The Philadelphia Eagles’ mad dash to Super Bowl LVII didn’t happen by chance. Sheer dominance combined with incredible roster construction contributed to the Eagles’ meteoric rise in 2022. Philadelphia has identified a blueprint that could turn the Eagles into the NFL’s next great dynasty.
General manager Howie Roseman has rightfully received plenty of praise for engineering the current Eagles roster. Roseman’s aggressiveness in the free agent and trade markets have helped land multiple stars on both sides of the ball. However, it’s his consistent performance in the draft that has created a stable foundation for success in Philadelphia.
Roseman gets tons of credit for pulling the trigger to acquire A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans in last year’s draft. While Brown’s acquisition helped transform the Eagles’ offense, Roseman’s work in the draft has been pushed to the back burner.
Build from Within
In fact, 10 of the 11 Eagles’ offensive starters were drafted by the team. All the way from center Jason Kelce in 2011 to Devonta Smith in 2021, Roseman has accumulated an embarrassment of riches when it comes to homegrown talent.
The team’s success on the defensive side of the ball has been different with big free agent signings such as Daruis Slay, James Bradberry, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Javon Hargrave and Haasan Reddick, just to name a few. That being said, the leaders for Philly’s defense, such as Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat represent Roseman’s draft day doings.
The Eagles have built something special that can stand the test of time. Roseman’s knack for finding talent via the draft is special, but to pair it with his fearlessness to go out and bring in fully developed stars is uncanny. Under Roseman’s guidance, the Eagles are going to be a problem for a long time.
