The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to make a coaching change for Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, assistant Matt Patricia will call plays for the Eagles' defense from the sideline on Monday Night Football.
Patricia came to Philly this offseason after spending 2022 calling the offense for the New England Patriots. Before that, Patricia was the Detroit Lions' head coach for three seasons (2018-2020) and the Patriots' defensive coordinator for six seasons (2012-2017).
The Eagles plan to have defensive coordinator Sean Desai help out from the booth instead.
The move isn't too surprising after back-to-back ugly performances from the Eagles' defense that resulted in losses. However, it doesn't add up to head coach Nick Sirianni's original comments earlier in the week about trusting his coaching staff and how he would not be switching up play-calling duties.
Nonetheless, it's a coaching change that ultimately needed to be done in hopes of a quick turnaround.
The Eagles currently rank 28th in pass defense, first downs and points allowed. They sit at 22nd in sacks per play and last in stopping third downs. They're 30th in red zone defense and 31st in interceptions. They've also dropped from first to eighth in run defense since the start of the season.
It's safe to say that all eyes will be on Patricia come Monday night.
