Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton recently released his list of the Top 10 NFL quarterbacks and noticeably left Jalen Hurts off it entirely.
“Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback, but if we’re talking about what they bring to the table, it’s hard to judge what Jalen Hurts can do when you’re throwing to a guy like AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, you have tight end skillset, you have a dominant defense, the best running back in the game,” Newton said on his own podcast, 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.
“Jalen Hurts does not have to play elite for the Philadelphia Eagles to win. He has to play good, but he doesn’t have to play elite. We’re not asking you to win the game, we’re just asking you not to lose it.”
Of course, Newton knew that criticizing the Philadelphia Eagles’ signal-caller without facing backlash was a losing battle, and it didn't take long for one Hall of Famer and former Eagles wide receiver to fire back.
"“You would be judging him if he had all of that and wasn't playing well,” Terrell Owens wrote in an Instagram comment below the video clip. “This is a Skip Bayless type of statement with dreads!!! Don't be mad at Jalen because he's making great decisions, maybe had you made the decision to jump on that ball?! Just maybe?!
“Y’all will say anything to go viral. This isn't it @cam!!”
Newton may know a thing or two after having played quarterback, but it's hard to argue with a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro wide receiver whose name is enshrined in Canton.
