The Philadelphia Eagles have just made what is easily their worst move of the entire offseason.
The franchise as a whole has done a very good job for the most part at retaining key players and bringing in new faces, but it seems like the coaching front is where they are going to lose in the biggest way after hiring Matt Patricia.
This is probably the worst-possible move for the Eagles for a variety of reasons. First, what was the last thing Matt Patricia did well as a coach?
It certainly wasn't the Patriots offense in 2022 in one of the weirdest moves of the Bill Belichick tenure. Patricia also left a mountain to be desired as the head coach of the Lions, a job that he used to mostly alienate some of his best players.
Speaking of best players on those Lions teams, Patricia has a very open bad history with Eagles star defender Darius Slay, and the thought of these two being back together only seems like a recipe for fireworks.
Even if Slay openly says he is okay with a move like this, just allowing for the possibility of hostilities occurring for essentially no reward is a massive mistake by the Eagles.
Matt Patricia wasn't the missing piece on the coaching staff or for this roster to get over the hump. Darius Slay is far more important to this team, and the Eagles doing anything to jeopardize that is a mistake.
