The Philadelphia Eagles returned to normal practice on Thursday as they get ready to take on the New York Giants in Week 18 at home.
Five key players did not participate for the second day straight due to rest and/or injuries, including starting quarterback Jalen Hurts (concussion) and backup Kenny Pickett (ribs), running back Saquon Barkley (rest), and wide receivers A.J. Brown (knee/rest) and DeVonta Smith (wrist/rest).
The Eagles are expected to sit their starters on Sunday, so it's not much of a concern right now. However, since Pickett is still sidelined with a rib injury he suffered against the Dallas Cowboys last week, the Eagles could be turning to third-string quarterback Tanner McKee for their entire season finale.
Philly also purposely kept many of their healthy starters limited on Thursday while linebacker Nakobe Dean (abdomen), tight end Dallas Goedert (knee), defensive end Bryce Huff (wrist), and rookie running back Will Shipley (concussion) were full participants.
Eagles Week 18 Injury Report Observations
- Head coach Nick Sirianni has discussed resting his key players when they need it in order to keep them ready to go for their playoff run, which is why several starters were sidelined or limited to start the week.
- Quarterback Jalen Hurts's concussion happened in Week 16's loss to the Washington Commanders. He will need to pass through concussion protocol in order to return to practice.
- Kenny Pickett was injured in Week 16 and then again in Week 17.
- Since the Eagles will rest their starters in Week 18, it looks like third-string Tanner McKee will get the start.
- The Eagles also signed quarterback Ian Book to the practice squad last week for emergency depth.
- Wide receiver Britain Covey has finally been taken off the injury report.
- Wide receiver A.J. Brown injured his knee ahead of Week 16's matchup but has played through the injury. He's expected to sit out Sunday with other starters.
- Wide receiver DeVonta Smith was injured in Week 17. Expect the Eagles to rest him through Sunday.
- The Eagles opened tight Dallas Goedert's (knee) 21-day practice window and placed tight end C.J. Uzomah (abdomen) on Injured Reserve.
- Linebacker Nakobe Dean returned to practice this week after missing Week 17's game with an abdomen injury.
- The Eagles have one more week to activate Bryce Huff (wrist) off Injured Reserve.
