The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back cornerback Avonte Maddox.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Maddox and the Eagles have reached a one-year deal.
The details of his new contract have yet to be disclosed.
Maddox, 27, was released by the Eagles in early March to create more cap space ahead of NFL free agency, however, the move also created a major need at slot cornerback for Philly.
The Eagles did not fill that void in free agency, so bringing back Maddox on, hopefully, a bargain deal makes sense.
When healthy, Maddox is reliable in the slot and has logged a combined 245 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 31 pass deflections, four interceptions, three sacks, eight forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery through 64 career games (38 starts).
But that's the problem — Maddox has had a hard time staying healthy over the last two years and has only seen action in 14 games.
That said, there's no doubt that Maddox's return gives the Eagles an answer in the slot, but they're going to need to add more depth at the position in case injuries continue to plague his career.
