One wide receiver who knows a lot about winning is New England Patriots legend Julian Edelman. And while he wasn't on the field on Sunday, he was on the sidelines during FOX's broadcast.
The receiver spent some time in the Eagles locker room prior to the game, and left a very special message for one key Philadelphia weapon.
Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown revealed that Edelman left him a note in his locker before the Super Bowl.
“It meant the world to me," Brown told FOX. "I grew up a Patriots fan. this guy is very special to me. I watched him year after year, him and Tom. Those guys are very special to me.”
Clearly the message helped motivate him, as the Eagles went on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in dominating fashion.
Brown was a big part of that win, finishing with three receptions for 43 yards and one touchdown.
"I told myself going into this weekend: 'Make sure that (Eagles) green confetti is falling,'" Brown told Dianna Russini from The Athletic after the win.
And it's only fitting that he and the Eagles won after the wide receiver went viral for one moment during Philadelphia's playoff run. During the team's wild card win over the Green Bay Packers, Brown was caught reading a book on the sidelines.
It was later revealed that he was reading a passage from Jim Murphy’s ‘Inner Excellence.' And the day after the game, the book was listed as the No. 1 bestseller on Amazon.com.
“It gives me a sense of peace,” Brown told reporters after the game. “That’s a book that I read every single game. My teammates call it the recipe. That’s the first time you got me on camera but it’s not the first game. It’s got a lot of points in there, a lot of mental parts. For me, this game is mental.”
Brown even admitted that he re-reads the same passage each game.
"I always revert back to the beginning of the book," Brown said. "It states that you can just have a clear mind and remember that nothing else matters- a clear conscience- and nothing matters, negative or positive — you're willing to take risks. And I go back to it and it also says if you're humble, you can't be embarrassed. So, no matter what happens in the game or whatever happens, I'm just going to stay free and play free — keep going and taking risks."
What a playoff run for Brown that ended in the best way.
