It's been a while since DeVonta Smith had his name called.

In fact, it's been a few weeks. Yet, Shane Steichen — the Eagles' offensive coordinator — is assuring Smith's moment will come again soon enough. Other players within the Eagles' offense were merely getting their turn as the featured weapon of the offense.

“He's been great,” Steichen said on Tuesday about Smith’s attitude as he waits his turn. “He's selfless. He knows that his time is going to come around again. It's an ultimate team game, and we're in it to win football games.

"Those guys know that it's going to come around to them, whether it could be this week, it might be next week, we don't know, but those guys understand that, that we are trying to win, and when it's their time to get the ball, they're going to make plays.”

Two weeks ago, A.J. Brown had his moment, amassing a career-high 156 yards and three touchdowns. And last week, Dallas Goedert tallied 100 yards receiving and one touchdown on eight catches.

The last time Smith had a memorable game came on Oct. 9, when he caught 10 catches for 87 yards against the Arizona Cardinals.

Smith's best game of the year came against the Washington Commanders in Week 3, where he caught eight passes for 169 yards and one touchdown.

This week, the Eagles face the Commanders yet again. This time on Monday night football at Lincoln Financial Field. And Smith is ready and waiting in the wings for his opportunity to shine within the offense again.

“I think every game we go into that, we think about certain players and getting them going early and how the game is going,” Steichen said, “and I think that'll be dictated week by week.”

For smith to find success, however, it starts with establishing him in the offense early and often.

"One way the Eagles are proving they are elite."
