ESPN's Matt Bowen thinks a recent Super Bowl champion is a good free agent fit for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.
On Tuesday, Bowen listed the Eagles as the best free agent match for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.
Bowen likes Sneed's scheme versatility.
From ESPN: With his scheme-versatile coverage skills, Sneed will generate a ton of interest on the free agent market. Look for Atlanta and Las Vegas to make a play here, too. But I have Sneed landing in Philadelphia to upgrade the position opposite of Darius Slay, with Vic Fangio now calling the defense for the Birds. Philly allowed 16 passing touchdowns in the second half of last season, tied for the fourth most in the NFL. The Eagles have to clean up the secondary, and Sneed can make an impact. He has at least two interceptions in each of his four career seasons.
Sneed, a fourth round selection by the Chiefs out of Louisiana Tech in the 2020 NFL Draft, is coming off a solid season that wasn't quite as good as his breakout 2022 season.
In 2022, Sneed totaled 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three interceptions. This past season, Sneed totaled 78 tackles, 0 sacks, and two interceptions (he has 10 total interceptions in his four year NFL career).
Despite the downtick in numbers, Sneed should still be one of the top cornerbacks available in free agency.
A to Z Sports' Josh Queipo AND Kyle Dediminicantanio projected earlier this month that Sneed will receive a four year deal worth $64 million which includes $35 million in guaranteed money. The year one cap hit would be $8.25 million.
The Eagles are expected to have around $20 million in cap space entering the offseason (and that could obviously increase with cuts/restructures), so signing Sneed to a big deal is definitely doable.
There's no doubt that Philly needs to shore up their pass defense. And bringing in a two-time Super Bowl champion cornerback like Sneed could certainly help in that area.
