Former Philadelphia Eagles and current UCLA head coach Chip Kelly could be on his way back to the NFL.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, new Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is interested in hiring Kelly as Washington's offensive coordinator.
Fowler adds that Kelly has a mutual interest in re-joining the NFL.
Kelly, 60, wouldn't necessarily oppose as a threat if he landed in Washington, though he's still an intriguing potential hire as his time spent as a college head coach speaks volumes.
He's best known for coaching the Oregon Ducks (2009-12) to four straight BCS appearances, two BCS championship wins, and three Pac-12 titles.
After that, Kelly wasn't as fortunate as an NFL head coach, leading the Eagles to a 26-21 record in three seasons (2013-15) and then coaching the San Francisco 49ers to a mere 2-14 record in 2016.
Kelly took a break from coaching in 2017 and was hired as an analyst for ESPN.
He was named head coach of the UCLA Bruins in 2018.
This past year at UCLA, the Bruins went 8-5 and beat Boise State in the LA Bowl. But that won't be enough to keep his job steady entering the 2024 season considering he's failed to deliver even close to a championship season in the last six years that he's been there. And things are only going to get harder for him and the program with UCLA entering the Big Ten.
Kelly was also in play for the Las Vegas Raiders' vacant OC job earlier this month before they hired Kliff Kingsbury.
