Veteran linebacker Rashaan Evans lasted four days on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad before being released by the team on Friday, Sept. 15.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, that's exactly what Evans wanted.
"Rashaan Evans’ practice squad contract was terminated today by the Eagles at his request, per source. Evans has options from several other teams that he is currently considering," Schefter tweeted Friday evening.
The request comes at an odd time considering the Eagles lost starting linebacker Nakobe Dean (foot) to injured reserve a few days ago and don't have much depth at the position.
However, with Dean unavailable on Thursday night, Philadelphia opted to promote Nicholas Morrow to the active roster and also used backups Zach Cunningham and Christian Elliss to fill the void.
Head coach Nick Sirianni and staff must have been satisfied with the young linebacker group's performance in the 34-28 primetime win over the Minnesota Vikings and don't plan on using Evans anytime soon, leaving him to sit on the practice squad.
Its clear Evans is looking to get playing time, thus looking elsewhere and you can't blame him.
Originally a first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2018, Evans spent last season with the Atlanta Falcons. He started all 17 games in 2022, logging 159 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries.
