The Philadelphia Eagles could use some help in their secondary with starting nickel Avonte Maddox out indefinitely–and potentially for the rest of the season–along with injuries to safety Reed Blankenship and cornerback James Bradberry.
However, they won't be getting that help from Arizona Cardinals' Pro Bowl defensive back Budda Baker.
According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, an Eagles-Budda Baker trade of "off the table."
"I've been talking to a bunch of people in Arizona about this for months, and months, and months — I know the Eagles are interested in a safety, but it just seems Budda Baker is off the table," Kerr said on Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic.
Trade rumors started spreading over the weekend after Baker landed on the injury report with a hamstring issue late in the week and did not play in the team's 31-28 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.
Due to his Week 2 absence, there was speculation that Baker is still unhappy, which all initially stemmed from the offseason when he had requested a trade from the Cardinals before they gave him a pay raise.
The Cardinals ended up placing Budda on injured reserve Monday with the hamstring injury, however, he could be back by Week 6 at the earliest.
Baker is a major impact player on Arizona's defense and without him, it's obvious that they won't get very far. Even with him, there's no Lombardi trophy on the horizon for the Cardinals anytime soon.
If there's any part of Baker that still wants out, then there is no question that the Eagles are the perfect destination for a star player looking to play for a real Super Bowl contender.
The NFL's trade deadline is Oct. 31, so we'll see what the next few weeks bring for both Baker and the Eagles.
